Food Pantry Volunteers

Sue and Kathie, from Our Savior Lutheran Church (Laurel), are food pantry volunteers.
Each week, the pantry is run by four (4) crews - a Tuesday crew, a Thursday crew, a Saturday crew and a food pick-up crew. Each crew consists of three or more people. All crews work at Elizabeth House.
The Tuesday crew works from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. They distribute the pre-packed grocery bags to the clients scheduled for that day.
The Thursday crew works from 9:00 to 11:30 a.m. They pack bags of groceries for each client according to predefined lists of food and clients. They also sort food donations received, shelve them in the food pantry storage area, and they restock shelves in the packing area of the food pantry. In addition, they distribute the pre-packed grocery bags to the clients scheduled for that day.
The Saturday crew works from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. They distribute the pre-packed grocery bags to the clients scheduled for that day.
The food pickup crew works on an as-needed basis to pick up food purchased by the food pantry coordinator that will supplement food donations.
Each volunteer is assigned to a crew for a specific day of the month and they are asked to make an ongoing commitment for that same day each month (e.g. 1st Monday of each month, 2nd Tuesday of each month, etc.). Most volunteers work one day a month. However, they may sign up for more. If a volunteer is unable to make a long term commitment, they may request to work as a substitute on either crew on an as-needed basis.

Community Service
Because of space limitations, the Elizabeth House food pantry coordinator doesn’t usually schedule volunteers who want to do community service. Please call Elizabeth House (301-776-9296) during any of the times listed above and ask if your help is needed.
